What looked like it was going to be a pretty darn good weekend turned sour today when I learned that one of my boys had strep throat.
I took Friday off work and spent it painting my kitchen, a project I'd been promising the wife I'd do for several months. Once that horrifying 15-hour-long nightmare was over, I was ready to spend some time outdoors.
My five-year-old son and I saddled up Saturday morning and went over to Camp Cowboy, where we did some cleanup around the Lodge, retrieved a tree stand from the woods on a neighboring property and roasted marshmallows earlier in the day than I've ever heard of it being done before. We had made plans to get together with the Captain family later in the day, and I was looking forward to whooping it up and maybe even getting in a goose hunt.
But then my wife called to say my oldest was sick again. The afternoon festivities had to be canceled.
The Marshmallow King and I didn't call it a day right away. The two of us and the Cowboy took a ride out to the animal shelter to see the 48 horses that were recently seized from a farm in Middleburg. We also took a look at the dogs, and I hope to be able to talk the wife into letting me adopt one soon.
But other than that, the day was pretty much shot. Instead of hunting, I picked up some movies for the kids to watch and spent the afternoon and evening cleaning and rearranging my garage.
After that, I started experimenting with the blog and am currently trying out the "full story" format you see here. I've always liked that format on other blogs. But since the only way I could figure out how to do it was to put the full story on a separate blog, I'm worried about how it will affect my search engine optimization.
I also took a stab at domain mapping, and you can now get to my blog by typing in www.brightideablog.com. Hopefully, within a day or two, that will be the domain name that appears at the top of my page. I'll let you know how that goes.
I have to say that I do like the full story format and there is nothing like having your own domain.
On another note I had strep last year and it is entirely no fun. Any of you who read this make sure you get it taken care of early:) I'm a little stubborn and I paid the price.

hope your little one gets better soon. bummer they had to miss the outdoor afternoon.
i don't know how typepad works, as i have never used it. but, wordpress makes the "full blog" feature very easy to implement. one "glitch" i see in the way you have it set up is that on the front page, it doesn't appear to keep up with the comments being placed on the second page...

Kris: You're right; there's got to be a better way of doing it.

Listen to your wife (who is "the wife" anyway?).
