One of the first places my son Jake and I went to eat on our recent trip to Southwest Montana was the legendary M&M Cigar Store on Main Street in Uptown Butte. The M&M first opened its doors in 1890, and when I told locals that my grandfather was a Butte native they assured me that he would have patronized the M&M. We hit the M&M for burgers right after our underground mine tour at the World Museum of Mining.
The food was really good, and the M&M has a good selection of cold draft beer. Like everyone we met in Butte, the staff was super friendly and helpful. You can learn more about the history of the M&M at ButteAmerica.com (link above) but I think the bar's story is best told by the local band Dublin Gulch in its song Tap 'Er Light.
Check out the song below. Be sure to listen to the words; and when you leave be sure to tap 'er light!
