A week has passed now since I lost my dad. The toughest part for me has been after the kids' sporting events; I want to tell Dad about his grandsons' exploits on the diamond and gridiron, but he's not available to take the call.
Even as I deal with my sadness and sense of loss, I am strengthened by the kindness and support my family and I have received from relatives, friends, members of our church family and neighbors. I wish I could thank each of you here by name, but the list would be too long and the names so numerous that I'm afraid I'd leave someone out or thank somebody for something someone else did.
So I'm just going to keep this a general thank you post and say that the support from all of you who have called, emailed, sent a card, flowers or food, left a comment on the blog or otherwise recognized my father and our loss has meant so much and has gotten me through this. Church people always say that God will provide in times of need, and I know it's true; I know also that he used all of you to provide what I needed most during this difficult past week.
Please go to www.DoughtyFuneralHome.com and click on David Richard Coughlin for information on the memorial service planned for Saturday April 24, to sign the guest book or for information on memorial contributions.
Thanks again!
Author's Note: I was unable to link directly from this post to my dad's page on the funeral home site. I just want to make sure that no one confuses the first picture you see on doughtyfuneralhome.com with my dad. My dad is the one on the right in the Hawaiian shirt. The guy in the suit on the main page is Guy Doughty; Guy the funeral guy. I wish my dad were here to say that with me because I know he would have gotten a kick out of it.
And by the way, Guy the funeral guy is right up there on the thank you list.
