I finally got a chance to shoot my dad's handguns yesterday, when my stepbrother Mike and I visited the Silver Eagle Group Training Facility in Ashburn, Virginia. Silver Eagle is a high-class and well-run shooting facility, offering three ranges, each with 10 shooting lanes.
I don't have a lot of experience with handguns (virtually none before yesterday.) So, since my dad is not here to teach me how use his weapons, it was great to have Mike onhand to show me the ropes of handling the pistols and using the range. The staff at Silver Eagle was also extremely helpful, and the cost of using the range is very reasonable.
Read the rules on Silver Eagle's website before you go, but, as far as I can tell, you can shoot virtually anything except muzzleloaders on the facility's 25 and 50-yard indoor ranges. I'll definitely be going back soon!
